The Hardest Job I’ve Ever Loved: Running My Own Company
Being the owner and producer of your own company is equal parts rewarding and exhausting. People see the polished work — not the late-night revisions, the juggling act of timelines, or the moments when you’re both the creative engine and the entire operations department.
Yes, some clients are amazing. And some… well, they teach you patience. They disappear when invoices go out and reappear with “urgent” requests. You learn quickly to set boundaries, protect your time, and stand firm on your process. Because your value is your time.
And let’s be honest: chasing invoices is the least glamours part of the job, it becomes part of the job, that teaches you boundaries, and how to find your voice, in a chaotic and demanding world. Sending great work is easy — getting paid on time shouldn’t be its own adventure, but here we are.
Still, the triumphs outweigh the chaos.
You get to build something that’s truly yours. You choose the projects that align with your values, sometimes it a hit or miss but more often than not, you get the opportunity to create something really great. You grow — fast — in confidence, resilience, and clarity. And you gain the kind of freedom that only comes from creating your own path.
Running your own company isn’t perfect.
But it’s purposeful, empowering, and worth every challenge.
